Statement of Solidarity with Ukraine

Breakthroughs Film Festival stands with all the people of Ukraine in their fight against imperialism and tyranny from Russia. We also stand with Ukrainians in Canada and elsewhere in the diaspora, who must watch from afar as their family and homes are made subject to unconscionable cruelty and violence.

We understand that it is our responsibility as artists, curators and creators to expose injustice wherever it is found. We seek to amplify creators who are subject to the kind of marginalization being experienced by Ukrainians today. It is our keen ambition that our festival, with its theme of renewal, will remind audiences everywhere that peace and growth must always be the goal when tyranny reigns. It is all of our responsibility to stand up and take action when the lives of millions are threatened by violent regimes.

Breakthroughs Film Festival encourages you to take action through donating to organizations like Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal, The Red Cross, or Come Back Alive charity. Additionally you can write your MPP, or MP to show your solidarity and ask your government to do more.
